These are things that you as a homeowner can look at for making repairs on your water softener before you have to call out a certified technician. One of the first things you can look for is going to the softener test. The next thing you can go for if the softener test comes out hard and your water softener is regenerating all the time, you can check for to see if you’re brine tank has a salt bridge in it. If there is a salt bridge in your brine tank then you want to take the lid off. You want to then check the height of your tank by using some kind of stick or rod. Put whatever object you are using on the ground by the brine tank standing straight up, then take tape and wrap tape around it where the top of the tank lies. Take your stick or rod and jam around in the brine tank to break the salt bridge. One of the main reasons for water softeners not to work is salt bridges being inside the brine tank.
Why The Brine Tank Produces No Soft Water
What happens is an air gap forms at the bottom of the tank where water won’t go through the brine tank where the unit pulls water from. This causes your water softener to not produce any soft water at all. You may also experience days were you receive very little soft water and some days were you don’t receive any at all. You will notice this if you are used to the feeling of soft water.
